Big Bend National Park Elopement Texas
Big Bend elopements are baller. I have shot an intimate sunrise small wedding in Big Bend (click here to see) and fell in love to the point where I almost died when Katherine reached out to me for a sunset. I have loved scouting locations for this elopement and can’t wait for more.
As a Texas native, when I get to go to the mountains that are STILL in Texas, I know it’s going to be an amazing day. Actually, no… That’s a lie… If I get to shoot a wedding wearing my Merrell hiking boots vs heels, THAT’S an amazing day. This place is a huge “come to Jesus” place for me. You have mountains cascading behind each other, wildlife that you can only get in this part of Texas, a crap ton of stars like I’ve never seen before and an open desert feel that makes me feel like I’m in a Breaking Bad show.

“We were both nervous about taking tons of photos because pictures aren’t our thing. We always feel we look so awkward in them and nervous about being uncomfortable with strangers. Brit Nicole Photography made us feel so comfortable and helped us have so much fun! Brittney was able to release a lot of stress and fears that came with COVID, along with unexpected closures, but Brittney planned everything to a T and got us excited all over again!”
We had a few hick-ups planning Katherine and Taylors elopement just due to the fact COVID shut everything down, but honestly, that didn’t matter or stop us. We just shifted and rolled with it and the elopement day couldn’t have gone any better. It was perfect. There were lots of belly laughs and deep-felt tears that happened throughout the day and ended with a perfect fire by the tent under the massive stars and milky way. I mean, there was a moment through the night were we all stopped to search for something that went “missing”, but I promised Taylor I wouldn’t call him out on it…. 😉
Katherine told me she wanted me to find all the amazing places, so that’s what I did. I found my most favorite spots and picked a baller location for the ceremony. I am still so honored that I got to be a part of something so special and also marry them. Just them two, their vows, and their dying love to just marry each other tied into the perfect adventure elopement here in Texas.
One of my favorite things about this couple is that after the elopement was said and done, they went backcountry camping throughout Big Bend and sent me photos and updates, just so I could live vicariously for a little bit. I’ll share a bit of their “honeymoon” from the backwoods below! They came upon a bear at their campsite and the bear wouldn’t leave, they ended up abandoning that idea and had to settle for a hotel for the night since the bear obviously wanted their spot more than they did.

Why I Am the Big Bend Photographer, Not Just a Photographer Who Will Go There
Here is the honest difference between me and the other names you are googling: Big Bend is my backyard. The big elopement teams fly in from Colorado or the coasts, shoot the one canyon from the blog posts, and fly home. I have been working this desert for years, in every season, and I know it the way you know your own street.
That matters here more than almost anywhere, because Big Bend has no margin for guessing. No cell service, hours between gas stations, heat that rewrites timelines, and park rules about where a ceremony can happen. I know which washes flood, where the light hits the Chisos first, which river road is actually passable this month, and I check conditions every wedding morning before we leave. Your day is built on ground truth, not a Pinterest pin.

What Your Big Bend Elopement Day Actually Looks Like
Far west Texas, where the desert meets the Rio Grande. Your wedding day, out where the crowds never come.
The Half Day
5:30am You get ready in a casita in Terlingua with coffee and the ghost town quiet, the Chisos Mountains turning purple out the window.
6:15am We drive into the park as the desert wakes up. Jackrabbits, ocotillo shadows a hundred feet long, and a horizon with nothing man-made on it.
6:45am First look with the Chisos burning orange behind you. Desert sunrise light is the most flattering light on the planet and it is all yours.
7:15am Your vows at Santa Elena Canyon, where fifteen-hundred-foot walls rise straight out of the river. Your voices echo off rock in two countries. Nobody else is there. Nobody else is ever there this early.
8:15am Champagne on the riverbank, portraits in the canyon mouth, your boots in the Rio Grande.
10:30am Married and eating breakfast tacos in Terlingua while the day tourists are still airing up their tires.
The Full Day (what nearly everyone books: add $2,000)
Your canyon morning, then the desert keeps delivering: a soak in the hot springs beside the Rio Grande with your rings on, an afternoon siesta out of the heat like the desert intends, then golden hour in the Chisos with the whole park turning copper and rose below you. And the finale only Big Bend can throw: it is a certified International Dark Sky park, some of the darkest night sky in the lower 48. The Milky Way comes out so thick it looks spilled. You dance under it in your wedding clothes. That is your last photo of the night.
One day, canyon to hot springs to a sky full of stars, zero rushing. That is the elopement difference.
