Iceland Sunrise Elopement
Did you know Americans can get married in Iceland and it’s a lot easier than getting married in Colorado? Iceland is by far the one of easiest countries to elope in since they recognize all religions and sexuality. Not only do you get the most stunning views in the world as your “venue” backdrop while saying your vows, you get to experience the Northern Lights as you wrap up the day.
My couple originally inquired about having their elopement in Colorado with their dog, but after talking with them on the phone their vision was actually Iceland. I send all my clients detailed questionnaires that go into their personalities and who they are as a couple. Turns out, my girls wanted me to surprise them based off the questionnaire they sent in, and off I went scouting locations.
I had already known places in Iceland but I wanted to make this one super special. I originally was going to take them for a sunrise at one of the blacksand beaches for their ceremony. Early that morning as we were heading out we double checked the roads and they had shut it down. One of the caves had rocks fall and collapse therefor made it not safe for anyone to be there with the tide coming in.
What we ended up doing was reversing the day and I’m so glad we did! The weather was the best it had been all week, the sunrise was stellar, and we ended in a very secluded area to watch the Northern Lights. It was the best time and I’m so glad I could provide my clients the experience they were looking for. I absolutely LOVE this couple and wish them nothing but the best out of life.

We met each other in nursing school in 2017 and became best friends almost immediately and remained that way all through college. It was so easy being around each other and being ourselves. We knew since the beginning that our friendship was one of a kind.
After graduating we moved to Indianapolis, IN together to start our careers. This was a huge transition for both of us, but the best thing that could’ve happened. During this time we developed a relationship. It was difficult trying to explain our relationship to many but as time went by we realized that nothing mattered besides us.
We put the negativity behind us and displayed our love for everyone and anyone to see! Fast forward to July of 2022. We got engaged! Once we started the wedding planning process, we quickly realized that we were not the type for a traditional wedding and began researching elopement photographers. This process was so new to us so we were a bit nervous on the entire process. After researching we knew immediately that Brit was our first choice! The reviews were amazing and the pictures were breathtaking! We knew immediately that we could trust her and her work to make our love shown!
Our most favorite memory from the wedding was the massive waterfall location in Iceland. We were NOT expecting to be completely soaked in any location, especially being in Iceland but we are SO GLAD we did. (Hey, y’all… If you elope with me you need to expect this type of fun!) It was the most fun we have had in a long time. The moment felt so freeing and magical. It truly felt like we were in a movie and could be ourselves. We did not want the moment to end. It is truly something we are going to remember for the rest of our lives. Brit and her assistant, Madelyn, made us feel like they had been our friends for years and were truly our number one supporters that day.
If we could give advice to a new destination elopement bride we would say, say YES to everything! This day is a once in a lifetime experience and goes by so quickly. Make the absolute most out of it and do not worry about the little things, they mean absolutely nothing!
I took them to one of the most recent eruptions in Iceland to explore the lava field
