Colton + Nicole
Engagement photos
I remember seeing Nicole’s engagement announcement on facebook and I remember thinking, “Ermmmgggg. I remember her being so genuine and fun when I shot her sisters’ wedding. She’s going to be a dream to work with whoever she chooses for her journey.” When her sister messaged me I about died… Then I saw Nicole’s name in my email and once we had our consultation we both just knew we were meant to be. Our vision of being able to make them FEEL something from a still photo aligned up with both of our passions for emotional based photography and adventure wrapped up into one.
And here is a fun little tidbit. The friend that set Nicole and Colton up was also a previous bride for me and the day I shoot their engagements was the exact day I shot Brittany and Braiden’s engagements 7 years ago to the day.
Their story:
God’s timing is everything. You hear time and time again how the timing of the situation dictates the end of the story… that is how I would describe the story of Colton and me.
Seven years ago is when Colton states I first caught his attention at a friend’s wedding. Unfortunately I
do not quite remember meeting him.
In 2016 I moved overseas for a year after graduating from nursing school and felt I was finally ready to meet the right guy after finding my own identity in Christ. Our mutual friend Brittany who was the bride of a wedding Brit Nicole shot back in 2014 told me of the most wonderful guy that I should meet. I didn’t know if I was stable enough being back in the US but thought, “why not”. Colton drove 6 hours to take me on our first date. I would love to say that it was love at first sight but sadly the date was sort of a bust haha. After leaving, I honestly did not think I would see him again. My friends who knew Colton kept pushing me to give him another chance because they felt “we would make the perfect match”.
A year later, I moved to Dallas and received a random text from Colton that he had seen me in Dallas
(talk about timing). He wanted to hang out again which I blew him off due to focusing on the new job I
had just gotten. He called me boujee and backed off again. For some reason the next couple of months he kept coming to my mind and I finally decided to give him one more try. I asked him if he was free and came up with a time for him to drive an hour to my apartment and cook me dinner. So July 16, 2018
Colton walked up to my door carrying a bag of food to cook. I think the moment I remember so clearly is him pulling out ingredients that included salt in a bag and one egg. I informed him that he could have used one of my eggs instead of driving with one and he told me that he didn’t want me to worry about a
thing and did not want to ask me to go buy them just in case I didn’t have one. That detail may not mean much to some people but to me, it describes Colton to a T in that he is the most caring human and takes care of me down to the details. That night was a dream from cooking and laughing in the kitchen to sitting by the pool with a bottle of red wine getting to know each other.
As he left that night, I knew I had found that guy I was meant to spend the rest of my life with. It may have taken me a couple of years to figure that out but so thankful we had chances to get it right. We both have learned to love each other the way we were meant to be loved. Deciding to spend forever was one of the easiest decisions we have ever made together. God is so faithful to allow up to live seasons that teach us to appreciate his blessings. Colton is one of those blessings. I can’t imagine my life without him. He is the most gentle, sincere, loving guy who I do not deserve most days. He is my happy ending.
Timing is everything with our adventure. June 2020 can not come fast enough.
I chose Brit Nicole to photograph our wedding because of my sister. She did my sisters wedding in 2015
and did absolutely amazing. Her fun personality made taking pictures fun but also natural. The joy she brings with her is what makes people feel natural and to make the pictures an experience of a lifetime.
My sister was so impressed with her work, she basically forced me to hire her for my wedding as well. I am so glad I did. Taking our engagement pictures was so amazing for a couple of reasons. First, Colton is shy around cameras and does not exactly like his picture being taken. He went into the session anxious about having to do pictures. Throughout the session, I could literally see and feel him come out of his shell and love me through pictures. We both left on cloud nine and felt that our love was reminded to both of us during the picture session. Brit Nicole brought out our love and reminded us why we chose each other in the first place. I can not express how thankful I am for her talent and the joy she brings through photography. I’m also so excited to have her take us up in the mountains to do an adventure day after shoot after our elopement wedding. Our adventure of a mountain wedding needed a photographer who thrives in an adventure setting and who will show the love and joy we share together.
