This Amarillo Texas Wedding started with a Great Gatsby feel and ended with cotton candy champagne and confetti pops on the dance floor
I love it when clients have their vision set out in front of you and you’d know exactly how to make that happen as a wedding photographer. Halle had an elegant class with a touch of pure fun from wanting to do first looks with mom, dad, and grandparents at The Venue, first look with Jake out at Palo Duro Canyon, ceremony coupled with the first dance and cake cutting at Trinity Fellowship Church and then back to The Venue to drink cotton candy champagne and dance the night away!

We have both attended and worked at Trinity Fellowship Church in Amarillo, Texas, for several years before ever actually meeting each other. Halle worked in the office upstairs, and Jacob worked on grounds outside. She walked into work one day right past Jacob, and he would say she didn’t look like she had time for anyone. She would say that she always noticed the guy outside under the cap and sunglasses but always assumed he was probably married with 3 kids, and never gave it a second thought. Neither of them ever mentioned anything about it, but Jacob had his eye on her for a while. He was always very picky about who he spent his time with, especially when it came to women. He knew what he wanted, and he was willing to wait for it. Over a year later, a friend of Halle that also knew Jacob, without talking to either of us, had the idea that Halle and Jacob needed to be together. She texts Halle and says, “Hey girl, this is super random, and no pressure at all! But would you ever date Jacob Whittington?” And at first, Halle thought, “I’m not even sure I know who that is,” and my second thought was, “well, why not?” She decides to text him, and he thinks it’s a joke. But he runs with it and doesn’t let her think for a moment that he’s uninterested. A few days later he comes up to her office and asks her to dinner, and leading up to it brings her breakfast at work, seeks her out at church when he’d rather hide in the background, and continues to be intentional with pursuing her. They go on our first date and it’s so awkward. Halle talks more than she realizes was possible and thinks Jake is having a terrible time. Jake is so nervous and hardly says a word the whole date. He thinks he blew it, but she is persistent to work past the awkwardness to really get to know him. After several more awkward dates and getting to know each other, they quickly begin to see a future together. And now, we’re here today and it feels like we’ve known each other forever.
The ceremony is my favorite memory from the wedding day. Seeing everyone there for us when I turned the corner, walking down the stairs to a cover of Godspeed by Paravi Das echoing in the foyer, giggling with my dad as we came down the aisle, and seeing my man waiting for me at the end of the aisle with all of his love for me radiating out him. He felt the tears welling up but tried to keep it down knowing he wouldn’t be able to get it back together again. Everything just felt still and perfect in that holy moment.
My advice to a new bride would be if you’re planning the whole shebang – wedding, reception, after-party, rehearsal dinner, etc, decide at the beginning on 2-3 things that the two of you absolutely have to have and put your energy on those things and let the rest just be what it is. The week of the wedding, you literally can’t care less about any of it. Also, delegate and do as much communicating before wedding week so you aren’t spending your days answering a million questions while you are trying to get ready for the wedding/honeymoon.
To me, photos are windows to past memories, and it helps you to relive those memories. I didn’t want to ever forget this day, the laughs, cries, dances, etc. When I looked at Brit Nicole Photography’s picture gallery I saw those moments captured well and beautifully, and I knew I wanted the same for our moments.
