Tucked away in the mountains of Red River New Mexico, I got to photograph one of the most intimate small weddings that still brings tears to my eye. You could literally feel the sweetness of their spirits and the pure love they have for each other just from seeing them lock eyes for the first time as the bride walked down the aisle. Everything was so perfect for this mountain wedding. The weather was amazing, and yes, it did rain and we still had a great time! The fresh crisp air with the most beautiful forest mountain backdrop is just a dream. I usually post about 70 images for a wedding blog, but this one has my heart. I couldn’t bring myself to narrow it down, it was way too hard. You’ll see why in just a minute.

God’s timing is everything. People talk about how it was just the right time in life that changed the outcome. That is how I would describe the story of Colton and I. Way back in the day of 2015, Colton states I first caught his attention at a friends wedding. Apparently I didn’t quite remember meeting him, maybe because I was in another relationship or it just wasn’t the right time. I moved overseas for a year after graduating from nursing school and felt I was finally ready to meet the right guy after focusing on myself and finding myself through mission work. Our mutual friend Brittany who was the bride of the wedding back in 2015 told me of the most wonderful guy that I should give a chance to. I didn’t know if I was stable enough being back in the US but thought, “why not”. Colton drove 6 hours to take me on our first date. I would love to say that it was love at first sight but sadly the date was sort of a bust haha. After leaving, I did not think I would see him again. My friends who knew Colton kept pushing me to give him another chance because they felt “we would make the perfect match”. I ended up moving to Dallas about a year later and received a random text from Colton that he had seen me in Dallas (talk about timing). He wanted to hang out again which I blew him off due to focusing on the new job I had just gotten. He called me boujee and backed off again. For some reason the next couple of months he kept coming to my mind and I finally decided to give him one more chance. I asked him if he was free and came up with a time for him to drive an hour to my apartment and cook me dinner. So July 16, 2018, Colton walked up to my door carrying a bag of food to cook. I think the moment I remember so clearly is him pulling out ingredients that included salt in a bag and one egg. I informed him that he could have used one of my eggs instead of driving with one and he told me that he didn’t want me to worry about a thing and did not want to ask me to go buy them just in case I didn’t have one. That detail may not mean much to some people but to me, it describes Colton so well in that he is the most caring human and takes care of me down to the details. That night was a dream from cooking and laughing in the kitchen to sitting by the pool with a bottle of red wine getting to know each other. As he left that night, I knew I had found that guy I was meant to spend the rest of my life with. And from that night, we never looked back. It may have taken me a couple of years to figure that out but so thankful we had chances to get it right. He is the most gentle, sincere, loving guy who I do not deserve most days. He is my happy ending. God’s timing is everything with our adventure of finding ourselves and then becoming each other’s forever.
I don’t have one specific favorite memory from the wedding, because all of it was amazing. I love being able to enjoy my girls who were in my bridal party and my family before the ceremony. I cry every time I think about our ceremony. It was so intimate and genuine. And the dancing to follow was perfect. My dad showed off his dance moves and everything thoroughly enjoyed themselves while celebrating our marriage. The details of how God took care of us and the wedding is my absolute favorite part of it all.
The best advice I want to give future brides is to cut the guest list and enjoy every moment. Be present every minute with the most cherished people of your life.
I chose Brit Nicole to photograph our small mountain wedding because of my sister. She photographed my sister’s wedding in 2015 and did absolutely amazing. Her hilarious personality made taking pictures fun but also natural. The joy she brings with her is what makes people feel natural and to make the pictures an experience of a lifetime. My sister was so impressed with her work, she basically forced me to hire her for my wedding as well. I am so glad I did. She has done such an incredible job going the extra mile (literally) for us. She knows what is important to me as a person and as a bride because she took the time to get to know me. I wouldn’t have had anyone else! Her talent and passion put together make for what you desire out of a wedding photographer, especially for destination mountain weddings in New Mexico!
