West Texas Desert Elopement with family in Big Bend National Park with a Disco theme!

It’s always magical every time we shoot out at Big Bend, but it’s never been DiScO magical! If you have ever been a client of mine, you know pretty much how the day goes behind the scenes. I make you laugh, we bond, but then what makes the day even more special to me is when I literally feel like I’m a part of the family. It just does something inside my soul when a parent calls me by my name instead of “Hey, photographer” or “the photographer”. It makes me feel like I’m a part of them and the day instead of just hired help. We did joke about me telling someone who calls me just “photographer” and yell, “IT’S BRITTNEY, BITCH” LOL You have to know my personality to laugh at that one…

So, to the family of Shaiane + Cameron, thank you for making me feel loved and valued. You all are the reason I do what I do and I LOVE it.

Cameron and I met at University Hospital in San Antonio in the inpatient pharmacy. I worked the evening shift as a pharmacy technician but was moving to the day shift and would need to train my replacement; Enter Cameron. The son of a pharmacist I worked with there, I immediately had my prejudgements about him and figured he just got the job because of his dad and he would be lame. I was wrong.

We had an instant connection and I never met this shy, reserved version of Cameron that apparently everyone else knows. But I was involved with someone else at the time and I made it a point to keep my distance and Cameron respected that. Fast forward a few months and I’m single and moving my life to Phoenix to pursue a new career. We hung out a few times before I left, but I was very focused on my new journey and felt like I needed to go at it with my full attention.

But I could not get this guy off my mind! He checked in on my occasionally and encouraged me. I saw the perfect opportunity to see him when one of my dear friends was getting married close to San Antonio.

I made a bold move and asked him if he wanted to go with me and I’ll never forget his response, “I’ll be the best wedding date you could ask for.” And he has been ever since that day.

One of our favorite memories would have to be the ceremony itself. It was so meaningful and moving to both of us despite my niece and nephew completely melting down. The backdrop of the canyon, the music of the river, the first rays of the day, surrounded by our closest friends and family. We’d both looked forward to that moment so much and it came together so perfectly. Another favorite memory is how relax and fun the dinner reception was. It was so laidback and we loved sharing that meal and time with our guests.

Just the background of the disco music during the reception dinner bringing out the silliness in everyone with a guest appearance from Macho Man Randy Savage (my brother put on my sequin jacket)!

I had come across elopements outside of Las Vegas and followed them on social media for awhile and I knew I wanted to do that but with little kids and older grandparents, I didn’t think Las Vegas was feasible, but the more Cameron and I talked about what we wanted for our wedding we just couldn’t get past this idea.

So I started internet searching similar ideas in Texas and Texas Elopement Adventures was the first one I came across and I didn’t look at any other company. They had so much information for elopements in Texas on their website that I was able to take time to read through and knew pretty quickly that it was going to be the right fit for us.

I loved how approachable this company was and I just had a gut feeling. I was right! Brittney is like family now!
